Pepco, DC Public Library Team to Save You Money

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Pepco and the District of Columbia Public Library have teamed up to educate residents on important energy-saving tips that could save them money on every electric bill. Energize DC is a partnership that teaches customers how to develop personalized energy-management plans.

Scheduled classes at DC Public Library locations are 60 minutes long and offer simple ways to conserve energy. The course was developed by Pepco and The George Washington University to explain home electricity use and what tools are available to reduce cost.  Each class, called Introduction to Energy Management, features Pepco's energy saving programs that customers can use online anytime just by signing up.

Children's activity books and fun giveaways will also be given to parents who attend one of this summer's Energize DC classes at libraries to help their kids get hooked on reading.  Pepco is highly supportive of the Library's Summer Reading Program that helps counter summer learning loss.   Kids who complete the activity book guides will be able to count it toward their 8-hour summer reading goal.

"We want our customers to understand that there are steps they can take to control energy use," said Donna Cooper, president, Pepco Region. "Energize DC is a great way to show people how easy it is to conserve energy and save money while their kids explore the joy of reading."

"The DC Public Library is proud to partner with Pepco to host Energize DC." said Richard Reyes-Gavilan, executive director of DC Public Library. "Libraries have long been champions of environmental sustainability.  We are proud to participate in a program that shows consumers how to reduce their energy consumption and save money."

The "My Account" section of Pepco's website has graphs and other information that let people see how much energy they are using and when they use it the most. Through Pepco's advanced metering infrastructure (AMI), customers are able to leverage data gathered from smart meters.  Personalized home-energy analysis reports can help customers make better choices when trying to conserve.

Any Pepco customer who attends a class will also receive a complimentary, reusable gift bag with even more helpful tips and reminders. The classes are offered at no charge for people 18 years or older.  All classes begin at 7 p.m. at the following locations:
