WASHINGTON, D.C. - Pepco is preparing to respond to potential outages stemming from an approaching winter weather system. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the District of Columbia and Maryland today. According to weather reports, our region should expect accumulation totals between 2 to 4 inches. Moderate winds are expected.
Heavy, wet snow, ice and wind can bring tree limbs into contact with power lines to cause power outages. Heavy rain and saturated soil can allow trees to fall onto power lines and equipment to cause power outages. Outages can also occur due to drivers skidding into poles along slick roads.
In anticipation of the inclement weather, Pepco will have crews on standby, and the Call Center will be staffed to handle additional customer calls. In addition to over 150 internal crews, Pepco has more than 400 contractors already working on the system available to assist with restoration if needed. Safety is our No. 1 priority. We urge our customers to prepare for potential outages and to stay clear of working crews and any wires hanging loose from poles or lying on the ground. If you see a downed power line, stay away from it. Assume that all downed power lines are live and extremely dangerous. Customers are asked to please report any downed wires by calling 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662). Customers also may report outages through 1-877-PEPCO-62 or through pepco.com or our mobile app. It is important that customers report their outage and request a call back to verify their power has been restored.
