WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Pepco crews working to make critical repairs on damaged underground equipment are currently working on three of the four lanes on Klingle Road NW between Adams Mill Road and the bridge over Rock Creek.  Starting Tuesday, the two eastbound lanes of Klingle Road NW will open to permit two-way traffic between Adams Mill Road and the bridge over Rock Creek.  Pepco is working with all appropriate agencies to direct traffic safely until the matter can be resolved.

Pepco crews have been working in this area since Friday to reach a non-toxic mineral oil leak coming from underground equipment.  On Friday, crews discovered traces of mineral-oil in Rock Creek which has been cleaned. Mineral oil does not cause an environmental threat. The National Park Service is on site to help monitor the conditions and does not anticipate any impacts to wildlife or people. All necessary containment measures have been made in Rock Creek.

Crews clamped the leak and stopped non-toxic mineral oil from entering the soil.  Pepco's investigation determined a contractor working for another utility damaged our underground equipment and caused the leak.
