Washington, D.C. - The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory for the Pepco region for snow and rain from 10 p.m. tonight until tomorrow morning. Snow accumulations of 1 to 3 inches are forecasted.

Heavy wet snow can pose a threat to power lines and Pepco is continuing to monitor the weather and respond with crews to any outages that do occur. Pepco has about 150 linemen, 200 contractors and 200 tree crews available to respond. 

During storm Jonas in January, when more than 24 inches of snow fell during a 36 hour period, Pepco customers were largely untouched by any outages thanks in large part to significant investments in reliability made during the last five years. Those investments include protecting overhead lines from falling trees and strengthening the distribution and transmission systems with stronger equipment.

Safety is our No. 1 priority. If any lines do come down, we urge customers to stay clear of them and any working crews that respond to the area. Customers should always assume that downed wires are energized and avoid them. Customers are asked to immediately report a downed wire by calling 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662). We also ask customers to let us know if they lose their power. Customers should check their emergency supply kits and be prepared in case they do lose power. Emergency kits should include a battery-powered radio or television, flashlight, a first-aid kit, battery-powered or windup clock, extra batteries, special needs items, an insulated cooler and a list of important and emergency phone numbers.
