Pepco Prepared for Heat Wave, Encourages Customers to Be Ready

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 6, 2016) - Pepco is monitoring the regional weather forecast and is prepared to respond to any issues affecting the local energy grid. The National Weather Service is calling for mid-90 degree weather until the weekend.

While the region's power supply should be sufficient to meet high demand, sustained high temperatures can strain the electric system and cause power outages. In response, Pepco advises customers to be ready for outages and has scheduled additional field personnel to be ready for the restoration of service.

Pepco customers can find home energy saving tips and information on incentive programs at www.pepco.com/saveenergy.

Customers can use the following tips during the summer months to save:

  • Regularly check the air filter of your air conditioner - a clean air filter improves system efficiency, which should lead to energy savings.
  • Be sure all windows are shut and outside doors are closed when the AC is on.
  • It is important not to have lamps, televisions or other heat sources close to the air conditioner thermostat - heat from these sources may cause the air conditioner unit to run longer than it should.
  • Check to ensure that no furniture or other obstacles are blocking ducts or fans. This will enable cooled air to circulate freely, making your home more comfortable.

Customers are asked to please report any outages and to stay away from any downed wires.? To report outages and/or downed wires, please call 1-877-PEPCO-62 (1-877-737-2662), follow the prompts, and please ask for a call back to confirm that power has been restored. Outages also may be reported through pepco.com or through the company's mobile app.
