WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 21, 2017) - On Monday, April 24, Pepco will conduct an energy conservation test for participating customers enrolled in the voluntary Energy Wise Rewards program. The goal of this exercise is to proactively check equipment prior to the peak summer session.
Energy Wise Rewards is a voluntary program that offers customers a choice of a web-programmable thermostat or an outdoor switch, which is installed at no charge to customers. During summer periods of peak electric demand, Energy Wise Rewards works to reduce electricity usage by cycling central air conditioner compressors off and on for short periods during times of peak electricity use. As an incentive, the program participants receive bill credits in return for allowing Pepco to cycle their air conditioners off and on a few days each year.
During the conservation test, participating customers will have their air conditioner compressors switched off and on for short intervals during the test period. Due to anticipated mild weather, customers are not expected to notice any significant change in comfort. It may take up to a half-hour after the test event ends at 1 p.m. for air conditioners to resume normal operations.
Customers can learn more about Energy Wise Rewards by calling 1-866-353-5798 or visiting www.pepco.com/rewards.
