WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 29, 2017) - Last week Pepco provided $737,000 in additional merger benefits to customers in Maryland, following an April 12, 2017 Maryland Public Service Commission order providing $7.5 million to be directed to support low to moderate income customers. Pepco is providing these benefits as a result of the merger between Exelon and Pepco Holdings that closed in March 2016. 

The benefits will assist low to moderate income customers in Prince George's and Montgomery counties. Pepco is partnering with the Washington Area Fuel Fund (WAFF), a longtime collaboration between Washington Gas and The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command, which helps customers with emergency utility assistance.

The Salvation Army, which has served the community for more than 130 years, provided help to more than 80,200 people last year through an array of social service and community programs.

More than 30 years ago, Washington Gas (a WGL Company) and The Salvation Army partnered to help establish the Washington Area Fuel Fund and help local residents in need. During the winter, WAFF pays for all types of fuel to heat the homes of people in financial need. The Salvation Army disburses the funds through its 12 offices in the metropolitan region while Washington Gas pays all administrative, promotional, and fundraising expenses.  Since 1983, the fund has disbursed more than $24 million to help more than 271,000 residents who do not qualify for or have exhausted government energy assistance.  For more information, visit washingtonareafuelfund.org.
