Exelon and Pepco Partner with Public Sector Solutions Group to Launch Cybersecurity and Information Technology Training Program at Walter Reed Infrastructure Academy

Program to provide local residents in under-resourced communities with in-depth classroom and paid on-the-job training within the energy industry.

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 11, 2023) — Exelon, Pepco and Public Sector Solutions Group (PS2G) have launched a new program that will give residents from under-resourced communities in the District of Columbia and Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland training toward new career opportunities in cybersecurity and information technology. The new workforce development program will provide skills-based, hands-on training with a focus on industry certifications, creating a pathway for successful students to begin a long-term career within the energy industry. PS2G will host the in-person classroom training at the Walter Reed Infrastructure Academy located in PS2G's new Center of Excellence. The intention is to train 1,000 learners by the end of 2025, creating a pathway to professional careers for individuals.

"PS2G has always been a company with a purpose," said Janel Merritt, chief operating officer at PS2G. "It is our honor and privilege to train, coach and prepare individuals for the highest demand driven careers!"

PS2G, a technology driven company that provides IT consulting services and innovative solutions to state and local government partners as well as corporate entities, will manage and administer the program. Exelon and Pepco will support the program through sponsorship and mentoring throughout a 12-week classroom training period for 15-20 participants and will also offer a 6-month paid apprenticeship for several individuals, during which participants will receive on-the-job training in Cloud architecture, cybersecurity policy, security risk assessments, and more. The goal is for students who complete the program to be competitive for employment positions within the Exelon family of companies and other companies and organizations in the local community.

"Cybersecurity and IT are increasingly critical roles within the energy industry as we work to ensure the local grid is safe, secure and reliable," said Tyler Anthony, president and chief executive officer of Pepco Holdings. "This program will give residents in our service area the skills needed to protect the energy infrastructure that our customers and communities depend on every day and advance new technologies that make the grid more resilient, while providing them with a foundation to launch a well-paying, lifelong career."

Exelon and Pepco are committed to supporting innovative workforce development programs that help educate the future energy workforce, resulting in positive impact on the livelihoods of individuals and families while supporting the advancement of the District's and Maryland's economy.

"Our 80 workforce development programs across Exelon already have touched the lives of thousands of people from our communities," said Robert Matthews, Exelon's vice president of Talent and chief diversity, equity and inclusion officer. "We're excited to add this increasingly important area of focus to the variety of opportunities we offer."

The companies have supported the District of Columbia Infrastructure Academy (DCIA) since its inception and has graduated 196 individuals through the Pepco Utility Training Program. All program graduates have received employment offers from Pepco, Pepco contractors or other companies committed to employment programs.

Exelon and Pepco also support numerous programs focused on increasing local students' interest in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) focused careers through career building programs and mentorship programs, including the Exelon Foundation STEM Leadership Academy which provides young women in high school hands-on experience in STEM, energy, and sustainability.
