Pepco Celebrates National Lineworker Appreciation Day

WASHINGTON, D.C. (July 10, 2018) – In recognition of National Lineworker Appreciation Day, Pepco honors the men and women who work tirelessly, day-in and day-out, serving electric customers across the region. Pepco celebrates electric field workers, including those who work in substations, on underground and overhead systems, and in other areas of Pepco's electric distribution system. They respond 24 hours a day, seven days a week, on weekends and holidays, and in challenging conditions to keep the lights on for customers.

"Pepco's lineworkers have a well-deserved reputation for answering the call for help, whether it's responding to customers in the District and Maryland or volunteering when others are in need across the country," said Tyler Anthony, senior vice president & COO, Pepco Holdings. "Often, lineworkers face challenging conditions, including this March when our crews worked around the clock restoring service to customers hit hard by winter storms. Our crews also joined mutual assistance efforts in the southeastern U.S. and Puerto Rico following the devastating Hurricanes Irma and Maria. And it's their hard work every day that is bolstering the local energy grid's reliability and resiliency against storms, and providing record reliability for our customers."

Pepco is committed to providing its customers with a modern, reliable and resilient energy grid, and its lineworkers make that possible. In the last five years, Pepco spent hundreds of millions of dollars in Maryland and the District of Columbia modernizing the local energy grid to further provide safe and reliable service for customers. In the District, the number of electric outages decreased 37 percent over the past five years, while the number of electric outages in the company's Maryland service area decreased nearly 49 percent.

Pepco joins the Electric Edison Institute, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and energy companies across the nation, including Exelon sister companies Atlantic City Electric, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power and PECO, in honoring electric field workers.
