Pepco Environmental Commitment Receives Major International Recognition

WASHINGTON, D.C. (December 19, 2018) Pepco has earned major international recognition for its commitments and efforts to reduce the environmental impacts related to its business operations across the District of Columbia and Maryland. This latest environmental achievement includes certification from the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which recognizes companies across the world that have adopted environmentally responsible business practices.

Earlier this year, Pepco and its sister companies, Atlantic City Electric in New Jersey and Delmarva Power in Delaware and Maryland, completed the implementation of an Environmental Management System (EMS), a standard for promoting effective, systematic management of environmental risks and opportunities. For these efforts, the companies received ISO14001:2015 certification, recognizing their commitment to a continual cycle of planning, implementing, reviewing and improving the processes and actions undertaken to meet business and environmental goals.

"Our commitment to serving our customers and communities goes well beyond providing the safe and reliable energy service they count on," said Dave Velazquez, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings. "We recognize that climate change is real and every day we are working to advance our operational performance, including implementing practices that can reduce our carbon footprint and provide a cleaner environment for generations to come."

Pepco, Atlantic City Electric and Delmarva Power join sister Exelon companies, BGE in Baltimore, ComEd in Illinois, and PECO in Philadelphia, which have received ISO14001:2015 certification.

Pepco is an industry leader in charting a course to a low-carbon energy future and promoting the advancement of innovative technologies and policies that will decrease the company's carbon footprint. Pepco has earned the Leadership in Energy and Environment Design certification for its Edison Place Main Office Building, maintains an environmentally-friendly fleet of vehicles, was named a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ENERGYSTAR Partner of the Year, and developed the Watershed Sustainability Center, a high-tech research, demonstration and education facility for demonstrating energy efficiency and new energy technologies.

Pepco also supported the advancement of the District's robust Clean Energy Bill, which was passed unanimously by the Council of the District of Columbia this week. Through its Green Power Connection program, Pepco has helped more than 4,500 customers interconnect private solar PV systems into the local energy grid. The company's Peak Savings Days programs help customers collectively save millions of dollars annually by saving energy when demand for electricity is highest. And, for customers looking for electric transportation options, Pepco is actively working to increase access to electric vehicles (EVs) across the District of Columbia and Maryland through its proposals to expand EV charging options and provide reduced electric rates and other incentives to help customers buy, own, and operate EVs.
