Pepco Joins City of Greenbelt to Celebrate New Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Washington D.C. (July 6, 2021) – Pepco representatives recently joined Greenbelt Mayor Colin A. Byrd, Mayor Pro Tem Emmett Jordan, City of Greenbelt Sustainability Manager Luisa Robles and City Councilmembers Leta Match, Judith Davis and Silke Pope to celebrate the installation of four new Level two electric vehicle (EV) chargers. These new EV charging stations are available for public use at Schrom Hills Park in Greenbelt, Md. The installation is the second of many to come in Prince George's County, Md., as part of the Pepco's EVsmart Program, which is bringing a public EV charging network to towns across Prince George's and Montgomery Counties. More information about how the program works and how residents and municipalities can get involved can be found here: Pepco - EVsmart

Pepco's will install 250 EV chargers across Prince George's and Montgomery counties in an effort to increase EV adoption and meet Maryland's goal of having 300,000 zero emission vehicles in the state by 2025.

At the event, Mayor Byrd and representatives from Pepco gave remarks about the significance of this installation before cutting a ribbon. Further event background and quotes pulled from officials' remarks:

Mayor Colin Byrd spoke about the joint effort of partners involved to reach this milestone in the community: "When we get a corporation like Pepco to work with us, and with our citizens, we can do the right thing."

Will Ellis, Pepco Director of External Affairs spoke about what developments like this mean to the community: "Pepco is extremely happy to have partnered with Greenbelt on the installation of EV Chargers for the community. At Pepco, we believe in powering a cleaner and brighter future for our customers and communities, and we are so happy to have this opportunity to help make the City of Greenbelt, a bit greener. I would like to thank Mayor Byrd for his leadership in making Greenbelt one of the first communities to take advantage of this important program to bring EV chargers to Prince George's County at no cost to the city, enabling residents of Greenbelt to have a place to charge their vehicle safely, while taking advantage of the great amenities that exist at Schrom Hills Park. Our EVSmart Program aims to educate and attract customers to invest in Electric Vehicles that will spur economic development, reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase equity in County, ensuring all customers can take advantage of clean transportation."
