WASHINGTON, DC (April 20, 2023) — For Pepco, powering our communities goes well beyond providing safe and reliable energy service. Last year alone, Pepco contributed approximately $3.2 million to local nonprofits, while its employees volunteered more than 10,000 hours to help hundreds of organizations throughout the District of Columbia and Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland. These contributions are part of the company's commitment to making a positive community impact and being a good corporate partner for the areas where the company serves and where its employees live and work.
For National Volunteer Month this April, Pepco and its employees will continue these efforts, celebrating all month with events across the area in support of local communities and organizations. These events further strengthen the company's commitment to power a cleaner and brighter future for its customers and communities.
"From employee volunteering and corporate philanthropy to energy assistance and workforce development, we are working to meet the needs of our communities and customers with a key focus on under-resourced areas of the District of Columbia and Montgomery and Prince George's Counties in Maryland," said Marisa Slaten, director of Corporate Community Impact for Pepco Holdings, which includes Pepco. "We have more to do and will continue partnering with key organizations in the community to ensure we are fulfilling that commitment."
The interconnection of community outreach and engagement, corporate philanthropy and volunteerism, and economic development efforts is a key component of Pepco's broad support for local communities. As examples of these initiatives, in 2022, Pepco:
"Our dedicated employees of Pepco are at the heart of our community impact," added Slaten. "The company's Powering Communities program helps connect employees with volunteer opportunities throughout Pepco's service area and recognizes their efforts." In 2022, 533 employees volunteered a combined total of more than 1,266 workdays through the program, helping support 176 different events.
Pepco's community giving focuses on organizations that help provide equal access to arts and culture and that educate customers about the energy industry and science. Pepco's community impact also includes organizations supporting community vibrancy, empowerment through sustainability, environmental and open space initiatives and those organizations that help foster the energy workforce of tomorrow.
