Pepco, Montgomery Parks, and Montgomery County Celebrate Innovative Nature Trail Opening

Washington, D.C. (October 11, 2018) – Pepco, along with Montgomery Parks and Montgomery County, have marked the completion of an innovative nature trail along a Pepco transmission line corridor in North Potomac, Maryland. The new six-mile, natural surface, multi-use trail connects the Muddy Branch Stream Valley to South Germantown Recreation Park. Dave Velazquez, president and CEO, Pepco Holdings was joined by Isiah “Ike” Leggett, county executive, Montgomery County, Maryland; Craig Rice, councilmember, Montgomery County Council; Casey Anderson, chair, Montgomery County Planning Board; Michael Riley, director, Montgomery County Parks; and Dave Magill, advocacy director, Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE) for a ribbon cutting ceremony and celebratory first ride on October 5.

Cutting the ribbon on this trail meets both of those important objectives.”

The trail is the first of its kind in the Pepco service area along a transmission corridor. The trail is being created and maintained through a collaboration between Montgomery Parks, Pepco and the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiasts (MORE). Pepco is the landowner of the trail and served as a design and permitting partner; Montgomery Parks completed construction and will patrol the trail; and MORE will maintain it.

“It is a pleasure to celebrate the opening of this new six-mile trail, which provides another opportunity for everyone to enjoy our County’s great natural resources,” said Ike Leggett, Montgomery County executive. “The trail, supported by the Pepco Exelon merger, joins the inventory of 238 miles of paved and natural surface trails in our County parks. Our County residents are the winners in this collaboration with Pepco as the landowner, Montgomery Parks constructing and patrolling the park and the Mid-Atlantic Off-Road Enthusiast maintaining.”
