WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 23, 2018) -- Pepco has been recognized once again by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) with the ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year: Sustained Excellence Award. This is the 5th ENERGY STAR award the company has received for its efforts helping customers save money and energy and supporting the reduction of carbon emissions across its service area.
The Sustained Excellence designation is awarded to companies that continue to exhibit exceptional leadership year-after-year in the ENERGY STAR program, while remaining dedicated to environmental protection through superior energy efficiency achievements.
"It is a great achievement for our company to once again be recognized by the EPA for our efforts to deliver innovative programs that are helping our customers save money and energy," said Dave Velazquez, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings. "We are pleased that our customers are continuing to see energy savings and taking important steps that are having positive impacts on our environment."
Pepco's residential, commercial, and industrial energy efficiency programs have produced more than 2,358,731 megawatt-hours in energy savings since their inception in 2009. The savings are the equivalent to eliminating more than 1.755 million metric tons of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere, removing 375,890 cars from the road or planting 45.5 million trees.
The ENERGY STAR award recognizes the success of Pepco's energy efficiency programs, which are helping provide customers with more control over their energy usage and are saving customers money and energy. Pepco, along with sister Exelon utilities, BGE, ComEd, Delmarva Power, and PECO were honored for their long-term commitment to energy efficiency at the EPA awards ceremony held in the District of Columbia last week.
"The 2018 ENERGY STAR Partners of the Year have demonstrated real leadership, showing how American families and businesses can save energy, save money, and reduce air emissions," said Bill Wehrum, EPA assistant administrator for Air and Radiation.
