Pepco Ups Donations to $825,000 for Coronavirus Relief and Response in the District of Columbia and Maryland with Support from Exelon Foundation

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 7, 2020) – Pepco is expanding its commitment to District of Columbia and Maryland relief organizations to $825,000 with nearly half of the support coming from the Exelon Foundation. The economic need during the current health crisis continues to increase, and these essential funds are being donated to help with the daily operations of these important groups during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The Pepco and Exelon Foundation commitment is part of $5.7 million in donations by Exelon Corporation and its family of companies nationwide to relief organizations in support of communities impacted by the spread of the coronavirus.

"Our communities are facing unprecedented challenges," said Dave Velazquez, president and CEO of Pepco Holdings. "We are not only dedicated to providing safe and reliable power during this crisis but also to providing continued support for our local relief organizations that play such critical roles in our communities, especially in their efforts to help the most vulnerable during this difficult time."

The company's executive team has also partnered with the eight Employee Resource Groups across the company to champion an employee challenge encouraging and supporting employee giving to local community organizations.  The program, PHI Cares – COVID-19 Relief Challenge – has already raised more than $60,000 in employee donations and company executive matched support, adding to the company's $825,000 in grant support.

Pepco was an initial lead contributor to the United Way of the National Capital Area (NCA) Emergency Assistance Fund, which provides additional capacity to community-based organizations to deliver economic assistance and access to vital food and basic need supplies to children and workers in the District of Columbia and Maryland who already have and will be impacted by the temporary loss of income. With additional funding from Pepco, United Way NCA can expand its Emergency Assistance Fund beyond the individuals and organizations it has already supported, including the Capital Area Food Bank, Martha's Table, Manna Food Center, Mary's Center and the Community Service Agency, among others.

The company is also contributing to the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington, which is providing relief funds to support restaurants and employees negatively affected by the coronavirus.

All of Pepco's COVID-19 support for relief organizations is going toward funds developed for this crisis, focused on food insecurity and loss of wages.

In addition to support of local relief organizations, all of Exelon's utilities, including Pepco, previously announced the suspension of service disconnections and late payment charges through at least May 1. Residents across Pepco's District of Columbia and Maryland service area who lost access to energy services before this public health emergency are encouraged to contact Pepco to have their service restored safely.

As a provider of the infrastructure that powers hospitals and health care facilities, federal, state and local response centers, and the millions of homes and businesses where people live and work, Pepco is dedicated to its critical mission of providing reliable energy to customers, especially during this time of crisis. The company maintains robust plans and contingencies to ensure business and operational continuity when confronted with potentially disruptive events, including a major public health crisis. Pepco and the Exelon operating companies are also working in close coordination with designated state and local emergency preparedness and health officials, and at the federal level through the Electric Subsector Coordinating Council.
