WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 14, 2018) – Pepco, and its parent company Exelon, partnered with the Student Conservation Association (SCA) to transform stewardship into a month-long endeavor turning April into Earth Month. Now instead of only observing Earth Day on April 22nd, the entire month will provide a chance to participate in coast-to-coast conservation ventures.
Dozens of Pepco and Exelon employees volunteered their time and effort at Greenbelt Park today helping to remove trash, clear trails, and restore damaged greenscapes along the Potomac River Watershed. Altogether, more than 5,000 volunteers at over 80 locations nationwide are participating in conservation projects throughout the month of April.
"Pepco was honored to be a part of the SCA's impressive and world-changing conservation work," said Donna Cooper, Pepco region president. "Greenbelt Park is an important and valuable asset for Maryland's regional environment, and we are privileged to help maintain its beauty for the community for years to come."
Over the next few weeks, thousands of employees from corporate partners, like Pepco and Exelon, will dedicated their time to conservation activities across the United States. During SCA projects that will occur this Earth Month, volunteers will remove 15 tons of debris from park lands, improve 200 miles of trails and waterfront areas, restore 125 acres of wildlife habitat, and create more than 10,000 native seed balls to support pollinator species.
Volunteers will be out in force in Maryland, Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Chicago, Dallas, Indianapolis, New York City, Oakland, Philadelphia, Miami, Pittsburgh, Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, and Seattle.
