Pepco is Powering Communities in More Ways Than One

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 14, 2019) – In 2018, Pepco contributed more than $3.1 million to local nonprofits, while its employees volunteered nearly 9,000 hours to help hundreds of organizations throughout the District of Columbia and in Maryland. These contributions are part of the company's commitment to powering communities and being a good corporate citizen for the areas where its employees live and work.

"We value the strong and important relationships we've built and continue to cultivate with our communities across the District of Columbia and Maryland over the last 100 plus years," said Donna Cooper, Pepco region president. "While we are known for our commitment to providing clean, safe, reliable, and affordable energy service to our customers, we also see it as our duty and obligation to give back to the communities that we are a part of and that we are privileged to serve."

Every charitable contribution from Pepco also comes with a dedicated pledge of volunteers. The company's Powering Communities program helps connect employees with volunteer opportunities throughout Pepco's service area and recognizes their efforts. In 2018, more than 390 employees volunteered a combined total of more than 1,125 work days through the program, helping support nearly 200 unique organizations across Montgomery and Prince George's Counties, Maryland and the District of Columbia. The top volunteers were honored at the company's Volunteer Recognition Breakfast on Tuesday, March 11 in Pepco's Edison Place Gallery in Washington, D.C.

"Seeing the outcomes of our continued contributions and volunteerism, with our outstanding non-profit partners, is another reminder of our deep connection to our communities and the vested interest we have in their continued success," said Mellanie Lassiter, senior manager of Corporate Relations for Pepco Holdings. "We are pleased that our broad support is helping these impactful organizations achieve their missions in serving the communities where we live and work."

Pepco's charitable contributions assist organizations that support education, the environment, arts and culture, and community development programs. In 2018, the company sponsored important community organizations including Friends of the National Zoo, the Arbor Day Foundation, the United Way of the National Capital Area, the United Negro College Fund, and Jubilee Housing.

In 2018, Pepco's parent company Exelon and its 34,000 employees gave more than $51 million to nonprofits and volunteered more than 240,000 hours with organizations across the country. This record-breaking community giving helped support more than 12,000 nonprofit organizations across 236 cities and 19 states and the District of Columbia.
