Washington, D.C. (April 5, 2021) – As part of the company's efforts to reinforce the local energy grid and provide the reliable energy service customers across the District of Columbia expect, Pepco will be performing critical work along Black Lives Matter Plaza, beginning April 12, 2021. The work, which includes the installation of new underground electric infrastructure, such as new conduit and a new manhole, will last four to six weeks, weather permitting, and will require excavation along 16th Street, NW between K and H streets.
Pepco recognizes the significance of Black Lives Matter Plaza to the District and the nation, and is working closely with the District of Columbia Department of Transportation (DDOT) as part of an effort to coordinate upgrades along the Plaza with minimal impacts for the public and local businesses. Pepco's work will occur from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, with some Saturday work as needed, and pedestrian access to the plaza will be maintained. Pepco is coordinating with DDOT regarding restoration of the Black Lives Matter Plaza mural to occur following the completion of the company's work.
Pepco and contractor crews will work efficiently and safely as they do for all of our projects, with added consideration given to District of Columbia COVID-19 guidelines and recommendations provided by the Centers for Disease Control.
