Pepco Returns to Normal Business Operations

Washington, D.C. (March 22, 2018) – Pepco has deactivated its Emergency Response Organization after Winter Storm Toby and its impacts are now well beyond the Pepco service area. Winter Storm Toby brought heavy rain, ice and snow beginning Wednesday morning and continuing through early Thursday morning.​

In preparation for potential storm impacts, Pepco activated its Emergency Response Organization at 6 a.m. on Wednesday morning and mobilized more than 1,500 Pepco employees, including field and support personnel.

Although the storm was a significant weather occurrence, the impact on Pepco’s system and customers was limited with only scattered outages across the area.

“We take every outage seriously, and we work tirelessly to ensure that all of our customers are restored as quickly as possible if there is an outage,” said Donna Cooper, Pepco region president.
“We are extremely pleased that this latest storm only produced few outages across the region; however, we understand that even one outage is impactful to our customers. The infrastructure investments that we continue to make are a critical part of Pepco’s ongoing storm response efforts.”

Over the last five years, Pepco has spent hundreds of millions of dollars modernizing the local energy grid to enhance reliability for customers and prevent those outages that can be prevented. This work has resulted in the most reliable electric service in the company’s history.
