How to Participate

Ready to Get Started?

Here's a breakdown of what you can expect.  Follow these steps to get plugged in!

1. Apply to Participate

Submit your completed application and required documentation directly to plugin@pepco.com. Once your application is received, Pepco will reach out to you and provide next steps. 

2. Complete Your In-Home Assessment

When your application is approved, Pepco will have a participating licensed electrician contact you to schedule a time to come to your residence and perform an in-home assessment.

3. Sign Your Customer Participation Agreement

Pepco will review the In-Home Assessment report.  Once approved, we will request a signed copy of the Customer Participation Agreement which details the requirements to participate in the program.

4. Purchase Your Eligible Level 2 Charger

After you return the signed customer participation agreement, Pepco will provide you with the estimated cost for your portion of the installation and provide a link for you to purchase an eligible Level 2 charger.. The 50% discount on the cost of the charger is applied by Pepco's charging vendor partners at the point of sale.

5. Schedule Your Installation

Once the eligible Level 2 charger is received, it's time to coordinate with your Pepco-provided participating electrician to schedule the installation. Pepco's approved electrician will apply for all necessary jurisdictional permits and install the new Level 2 charger. You will be responsible for paying the electrician for 50% of the costs of installation after the installation has been completed and inspected by the local permitting jurisdiction.

6. Install your Charger and Second Meter

Your Level 2 charger will be installed on your property on your scheduled installation date. After your charger and second meter are installed, the electrician will arrange final inspection with the local jurisdiction. That's it! Now, plug in and enjoy the savings. You'll be notified about the opportunity to participate in the next demand response event via email/text.

Eligibility Requirements

To be eligible to participate in Pepco's EVsmart Plug-In Vehicle Managed Charger Program:

  • You must be an active Pepco electric residential customer
  • You must own/lease a Maryland-registered EV with an electrical range greater than 30 miles
  • Prior to enrollment, Customers must allow Pepco representatives perform an in-home assessment to confirm the electrical panel is in compliance with electrical standards and local jurisdictional codes. Customers will not be enrolled in the program until an in-home assessment is completed and approved by Pepco.
  • You must also have a home network with a Wi-Fi connection available to the charger
  • You must have a driveway, garage or carport for the charging station
  • Customer cannot currently have an existing EV Level 2 home charger installed or received a previous rebate for an electric vehicle charging from Pepco
  • Offer is limited to one Level 2 charger and one Smart Meter per Pepco household

This exclusive program is limited to 100 residential customers on a first come, first served basis for eligible customers.  See Customer Participation Agreement for more detail.
