Time-of-Use Rate

Shift. Reduce. Save.

If you shift your energy use to times when energy is less in demand, you can save with our residential Time-of-Use Rate.

Save Based on When You Use Energy

Pay a lower rate when you shift electricity use away from peak usage times.

How It Works

  • Instead of paying a flat rate for your energy use, you pay a lower rate during off-peak hours and a higher rate during peak hours.*
  • When you reduce your energy usage during peak hours or shift it to off-peak hours, you can see savings on your bill. The lower off-peak rate is below the current flat rate, so you can save during all off-peak hours.
  • The more you shift your usage to off-peak times, the more you can save. And you can change back to the flat rate at any time.
  • By avoiding using energy during peak times, you can save money and help the environment.
Standard Rate Time-of-Use Rates (R-TOU-P)
Season Flat Peak Off-Peak
Summer $0.17 per kWh $0.46 per kWh $0.10 per kWh
Winter $0.14 per kWh $0.30 per kWh $0.10 per kWh

Actual savings may vary. Rates are subject to change throughout the duration of the program. The rates shown are distribution, retail transmission, and supply rates (including the administrative charge). Rates are subject to Maryland Public Service Comission approval throughout the program.

*Peak Hours Are:

  • Winter peak hours are 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. (October to May) and summer peak hours are 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. (June to September).
  • All weekends and Federal holidays are off-peak. This includes New Year's Day, Rev. Martin Luther King's Birthday, Presidents' Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Columbus Day, Veterans' Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas.
